Energy and Environmental Policy and Planning

HOLISTIC specializes in the following areas:

HOLISTIC contributes to the selection and management of energy efficiency and renewable energy actions in specific sectors, such as the municipal, residential and tertiary sectors, transport and industry. Moreover, we promote energy management conducting end-use energy audits in individual activity areas, as well as designing and implementing Energy Management Systems (e.g. according to ISO 50001). These activities are supported by the utilization of our available recording equipment and metering instruments (incl. among others thermal camera, energy analyzer, fuel analyzer, etc.) and the respective web-based tools.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Internet of Things (IoT) and data analytics constitute a catalyst towards conceptualising and generating new energy and climate solutions. Our ICT-based solutions aim at the exploitation of multidisciplinary data within a Smart City context towards the creation of energy management action plans. The added value is the “data-driven” decision support systems that encounters the inherent barriers of the analytical, simulation based tools, which are building/ sector specific, enabling thus the “plug in” of different infrastructures that generate streams of data, their semantic modelling and further processing, through inference rules, to produce short-term actions. These systems can support energy managers and city authorities for managing their facilities’ energy performance.
Many cities and regions demonstrate their willingness to implement sound local sustainable energy policies, especially through their participation in the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. We add value to local actions through the development, implementation and monitoring of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP), with specific energy saving and renewable energy objectives and actions. Our web application and learning tools contribute to the reduction of required time, municipality resources and capacities for the development of tailor made SECAPs and their monitoring.
HOLISTIC embodies environmental, social and economic needs, together with opportunities for “green” corporate development policies. At a first level, we facilitate organisations and companies to know if they are energy responsible and what they can do in order to improve their Energy Corporate Responsibility status. At a second level, we aim at linking the activation of organisations and companies with financial incentives, supporting policy makers in the formulation of public policies for “green” corporate development and energy efficiency funding.
HOLISTIC provides appropriate tools and methods for the analysis, assessment and management of energy investments, in order to attract and mobilise private funding on energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. We support financial institutions (incl. commercial/green investment banks, institutional and insurance funds) and project developers (incl. public / local authorities, energy companies, ESCOs, etc.) with the right framework, methods and tools, to identify sustainable investment pathways and decrease the risk of energy investments.
As the energy sector is becoming more and more competitive, energy providers and utilities need to offer attractive services to their customers (especially under the Energy Efficiency Obligation Schemes - EEOSs). A rapid feedback on the value of innovative pricing programs based upon customer usage patterns can be provided by HOLISTIC, exploiting smart meter and sensor technologies, as well as weather information, demographic data and occupants’ feedback. Moreover, user-centred applications that leverage data from smart meters into value for the buildings’ occupants can change consumers’ behavioural energy efficiency and enable intelligent home automation services. In this respect, energy providers and utility companies can optimise their data collection processes, reducing costs and thus offering a real value from improved revenue recovery.
