In the modern era, buildings stand as both marvels of design and voracious consumers of energy. In the realm of energy management, buildings often function in silos, lacking the adaptability needed for integration into the broader energy landscape. This disconnect poses a significant hurdle to efficient and sustainable practices.
Addressing this challenge head-on, the EU-funded WeForming project aims to transform the energy paradigm in buildings. Focused on intelligent grid-interactive efficient buildings (iGFBs), it seeks to harmonise energy processes, providing innovative solutions that bridge the gap between buildings and the dynamic energy ecosystem. The project will pave the way for smart cities adorned with innovative, energy-efficient structures.
WeForming facilitates smooth communication among all systems and tools, leading to a more user-friendly and efficient environment. It harnesses interoperable architectures through collaborative efforts aligned with Energy-Data-Space (EDS), International Data Space Association (IDSA), Interoperable European Grid Services Architecture (IEGSA) and FIWARE.

In the WeForming project, HOLISTIC leads the task of engaging building users to enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of intelligent Grid Forming Buildings (iGFBs) through co-creation activities, including surveys and workshops to gather feedback and co-design digital platforms. Additionally, HOLISTIC assesses the social innovation and stakeholder involvement of iGFB technologies by measuring user comfort, convenience, and satisfaction.
