Climate action, resource efficiency, and circularity performance are interconnected issues that significantly impact the economy as a whole. However, the current modelling capacity needs enhancement to capture their intricate interactions, thus posing challenges in representing the transformation of the European industry towards climate neutrality. The EU-funded TRANSIENCE project aims to address this gap by assessing circularity principles and measures for the decarbonisation of European industries.

The EU and China play a vital role in achieving global climate neutrality due to their large greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, economic power, influence on international trade, and strong competitive position in low-carbon technology industries. Yet, both regions face tremendous challenges in how to achieve their climate targets. 

As the EU increases efforts to decarbonise its building stock, a pressing dilemma emerges – how to effectively electrify thermal energy demand while maintaining affordability and sustainability. Current challenges span the entire building life cycle, from manufacturing to operation, necessitating a comprehensive solution. In this context, the EU-funded META BUILD project is proposing a cost-effective, replicable solution for these challenges by developing heat pumps coupled with renewable energy and storage systems.
